COACHING ACROSS DIFFERENCES

Facing an increasingly diverse and globalized world, businesses must have the cultural competency and flexibility in order to maintain their competitive advantage. In order to succeed, organizations must be capable of retaining, developing and capitalizing on its diverse talents domestically and globally.

To retain diverse talents, organizations will need to provide appropriate coaching and mentoring for these candidates. However, people often feel comfortable working with those who are more like themselves. Therefore it is easier and more effortless to mentor or coach people who are similar to us. And since there are not enough role models to provide coaching and mentoring to the diverse candidates, the process of developing and promoting diverse talents becomes a vicious cycle unless we can coach and mentor effectively across differences.

The intent of this workshop is to help participants use Gestalt practices to become more effective coaches when working with people who are different from them.

Workshop Outcome:

At the end of the workshop, the participants will have acquired:

  • Increased understanding of organization power dynamics and their impact on the development of diverse leaders
  • Heightened self awareness of the coaches’ role in the power dynamics and the impact on the coaching relationship
  • Formulated more effective strategies to coach across differences
